Gtechniq ceramic coating in the UAE

Gtechniq is a British ceramic coating brand. Its automotive range splits neatly in two: coatings you can buy and apply at home, and one you cannot buy at all. Crystal Serum Ultra is sold only through Gtechniq Accredited Detailers, and the brand's own FAQ explains the restriction bluntly — a badly applied coat has to be wet sanded off with 1200 grit paper, so it is not something to learn on.

The rest of the line is more forgiving. Gtechniq describes Crystal Serum Light as offering 80% of Serum Ultra's performance while remaining removable by machine polish if the application goes wrong, which is why it is sold openly. C1 Crystal Lacquer sits below it, and EXOv5 is a hydrophobic topcoat rather than a coating in its own right.

Durability figures below are Gtechniq's own. Note that the longer numbers are conditional on an Accredited Detailer doing the work — the same product applied at home carries no guarantee.

Crystal Serum Ultra carries a nine-year guarantee, and C1 a five-year one, but only when an Accredited Detailer applies them and only if you keep up your side. Gtechniq's guarantee registration terms require you to return to the detailer who did the original work every 12 months for the whole guarantee period. The inspection is free, but it is not a valet — the car has to arrive reasonably clean, and no inspection means no guarantee.

What is covered is narrower than people expect: staining or discolouration of the coating itself, which Gtechniq will repair or re-apply at no charge. Excluded are collision damage, scratches, vandalism, stone chips, rust, matte and satin finishes, anything that is not an exterior surface, defective application, and any case where another product has been coated over the Gtechniq layer. The guarantee is void if a non-accredited detailer applied it, or once two claims have already been made. It also belongs to you rather than to the car — sell the vehicle and the guarantee ends.

Gtechniq states that Crystal Serum Ultra's flexible base and hard top layer make it resistant to extreme heat changes, from -40°C to +250°C. That is the number worth knowing in a country where a bonnet in an August car park is a very different surface to the same bonnet at 7am.

The bigger practical constraint is application, not service life. Gtechniq's instructions for Crystal Serum Light specify an application temperature between 5°C and 25°C, and the car must stay indoors for 12 hours afterwards. HALOv2 carries the same 12-hour indoor rule, and Crystal Serum Ultra needs 12 hours to cure before it gets wet. In the UAE that means a genuinely climate-controlled bay for most of the year, not a shaded corner of a workshop yard, and it means a shop promising the car back the same afternoon in July is not working to the manufacturer's own instructions.

Gtechniq runs a network directory that lets you search by location and filter by Accredited Detailer, Certified Detailer or stockist, so accreditation is verifiable before you book rather than after. Ask which coating is actually going on: Crystal Serum Ultra, Crystal Serum Light and C1 are three different products with three different guarantee lengths, and only the first is restricted.

Then make sure the job is registered. Gtechniq's guarantee is registered online, and the registration form lists Crystal Serum Ultra, Crystal Serum Light, C1 Crystal Lacquer, Platinum and Platinum Plus as the coatings it covers. If your shop cannot register it, you do not have one. In the UAE the professional line is applied through accredited detailers rather than sold over the counter, and the brand's own network directory is the way to find them.
