STEK PPF in the UAE
Paint protection film & window tint
STEK's DYNO line is a premium Korean-engineered paint protection film sold on its thickness (~190 microns) and room-temperature self-healing, offered in gloss and matte finishes. STEK also made its name with 'fashion films' — tinted, carbon and prism PPF that restyles the car while protecting it. The same brand also sells window film: the NEX range is a nano-ceramic and graphene tint, so a STEK studio can usually do both the paint protection and the glass.

Two ranges under one name: DYNO film and NEX tint
STEK is unusual among film brands in being a serious name in two separate categories. Its paint protection film is sold as the DYNO series. Its window film is sold under a set of range names of which NEX is the flagship. A shop quoting "STEK" for PPF and one quoting "STEK" for tint are selling different products with genuinely different warranties.
Both sides are professional-install-only and sold through STEK's authorised installer network. If you are buying film and tint together, do not assume one document covers the pair — they are separate warranties with separate rules.
The DYNO paint protection film range
DYNO films use a liquid topcoat STEK describes as nano-ceramic infused, which delivers the hydrophobic behaviour, the self-healing — activated by heat or hot water — and the optical clarity, along with anti-contamination and stain-resistant properties. DYNOshield, the mainstream gloss film, is listed at 8 mil.
| Film | What it is | Finish |
|---|---|---|
| DYNOshield | The core hydrophobic, self-healing film, listed at 8 mil | Gloss |
| DYNOmatte | Same self-healing and hydrophobic topcoat, matte result | Matte |
| DYNOmight | Described by STEK as 25% thicker, aimed at track and off-road use | Clear |
| DYNOtop | Windshield protection film — note its very different warranty below | Clear, with visible texture |
| Fashion Film / colour series | Coloured and patterned PPF using automotive-grade paints, including carbon-fibre patterns | Gloss, matte and specialty |
| FORCESHIELD | STEK's separate PROseries film with a self-healing topcoat and a shorter five-year warranty | Gloss, colour options |
The NEX window film range
NEX is the flagship automotive window film: a nano-ceramic construction that also uses graphene, alongside tungsten, ITO and ATO compounds. STEK publishes NEX figures of 99% UV rejection, 93% solar infrared rejection, 66% infrared rejection and 64% total solar energy rejected — but does not state the shade those were measured at, which matters, because performance falls as film gets lighter. NEX is listed as Skin Cancer Foundation Recommended.
NEX+ is the newer construction. STEK describes it as delivering enhanced heat rejection, improved scratch resistance, a truer and more consistent black, and multi-directional shrinkage that makes it faster to fit on curved glass — but publishes no separate performance figures for it.
| Range | Technology | Note |
|---|---|---|
| NEX | Nano-ceramic with graphene, plus tungsten, ITO and ATO | The flagship. Published figures: 99% UV, 93% solar IR, 66% IR, 64% TSER — shade not stated |
| NEX+ | Updated construction in the same family | Claimed better heat rejection and scratch resistance, multi-directional shrinkage; no separate figures published |
| VISION 70 | Multilayer film using STEK's sputtering technology | Positioned for heat rejection and solar energy reduction |
| SMART / ICY | Nano-ceramic using ATO, ITO and tungsten | Ceramic tiers sitting below NEX |
| ACTION | Nano-carbon | Described as reducing heat and glare and blocking UV |
| DYNOtint | TPU-based film | Installed without a heat gun |
The warranty — read this one twice
STEK's own published PPF term differs by site and region. STEK's global warranty document gives the DYNO series twelve years from installation, explicitly qualified as varying by region with maintenance conditions attached. STEK's US site publishes ten years as standard, extendable to twelve where their Final Coat ceramic is applied. FORCESHIELD, the PROseries film, is five years. Get the number for your region written on your own document.
Cover is for manufacturing defects: cracking, splitting, delamination, bubbling, adhesive failure, yellowing and UV fading where these are material defects, and loss of self-healing performance. It excludes normal wear, road debris impact, accidents, improper installation or maintenance, third-party products, environmental yellowing, and damage caused during removal — and it ends when the film comes off the car. Registration is a condition rather than a formality: the warranty must be registered through STEK's ONE platform within thirty days of installation, and the owner activates it from a confirmation email. Transfer needs proof of the original installation date submitted within thirty days of the sale.
Window film works differently again. It is a limited lifetime warranty, but "lifetime" means yours: cover runs from installation through the original registered owner's period of ownership and terminates when the vehicle is sold. NEX is covered against fading to purple. Claims require the warranty card, the original installer invoice and the dealer invoice number, so keep all three. Separately: STEK's DYNOtop windshield film carries a thirty-day warranty covering manufacturing failures such as adhesion failure, peeling, bubbling and delamination, and excludes rock chips and wiper wear.
What matters in Gulf conditions
Heat-activated self-healing is a real advantage in this climate — a Dubai car park supplies the temperature for free, so light wash marks tend to close on their own. The hydrophobic topcoat is the other Gulf-relevant feature, and it makes dust and hard-water residue rinse away more easily rather than making the film tougher. Where cars are washed constantly and sprinklers spray treated water, that is often the difference between film that stays clear and film that etches.
On tint, the honest question is not which range has the biggest brochure figure but which shade the law allows. STEK publishes NEX's rejection numbers without naming the shade tested, and a legal shade will not perform like the tested sample. Ask to see the figures for your actual VLT.
How to verify a genuine STEK install
STEK operates a public worldwide installer locator, and its warranty documents state cover applies only where an authorised STEK installer fitted the film — so check the shop there. We could not confirm a named UAE distributor from STEK's own site; the brand reaches the region through authorised installers, and since STEK states terms may vary by region, confirm your term with the regional distributor.
The paperwork test with STEK is time-limited. If no registration confirmation email arrives within thirty days of your install, chase the installer inside that window — once it closes there is nothing to fix. And ask which specific film is going on, because the warranty follows the product, not the brand name.
STEK — common questions
- Is STEK a paint protection film brand or a window tint brand?
- Both, and they are genuinely separate businesses under one name. The DYNO series is paint protection film. NEX, along with VISION 70, SMART, ICY, ACTION and DYNOtint, is window film. They have different technology and different warranty documents, so a quote for one tells you nothing about the other.
- How long is the STEK PPF warranty?
- It depends where you buy. STEK's global warranty document gives the DYNO series twelve years from installation, explicitly noting the term may vary by region and that maintenance conditions apply. STEK's US site publishes ten years as standard, extendable to twelve where their Final Coat ceramic is applied. The separate FORCESHIELD PROseries film is five years. Ask for the term for your region in writing on your own warranty document.
- Do I have to register a STEK warranty?
- Yes, and there is a deadline. The DYNO paint protection film warranty must be registered through STEK's ONE platform within thirty days of installation, and you as the vehicle owner have to activate it from a confirmation email. If that email has not arrived, chase the installer inside the thirty days — after that there is nothing to correct.
- What happens to my STEK warranty if I sell the car?
- The two ranges differ. The paint protection film warranty is non-transferable unless the new owner submits proof of the original installation date within thirty days of the ownership change, and even then cover stays limited to the original term. The window film warranty is not transferable at all — it runs through the original registered owner's period of ownership and terminates when the vehicle is sold.
- Does STEK PPF self-heal, and how?
- Yes. The DYNO series topcoat self-heals with heat or hot water, so light swirl marks close as the car warms in the sun or under a hot rinse. The same topcoat is what gives the film its hydrophobic, anti-contamination and stain-resistant behaviour, and STEK credits it for the film's optical clarity.
- Is STEK's windshield film covered like the paint film?
- No, and this is the single most misunderstood point in the range. DYNOtop windshield film carries a thirty-day warranty covering manufacturing failures such as adhesion failure, peeling, bubbling, blistering and delamination — it explicitly excludes rock chips and wiper wear. STEK also states that texture will be visible and some waviness or distortion may appear, and that the film is not designed for daily drivers.
