SunTek PPF in the UAE

SunTek is a film brand owned by Eastman Performance Films, LLC, a subsidiary of Eastman Chemical Company. It covers two entirely separate product families that buyers routinely mix up: automotive window film, which goes on glass, and paint protection film (PPF), a thick urethane layer that goes over paintwork.

The two ranges use different technologies, carry different warranty lengths and sit at different price points. A quote that says only SunTek therefore tells you almost nothing. The series name is the part that decides what you are actually getting, and it is the part you should insist appears on your invoice.

Eastman publishes a full specification sheet for SunTek automotive film, which makes this range unusually easy to check. Figures are measured to National Fenestration Rating Council guidelines on 6mm clear glass, so they are comparable between series.

Evolve is the top ceramic line, built on a nanoparticle construction Eastman calls HeatResist. CIR and CXP sit below it, and the plain Carbon, High Performance and Standard lines are dyed or metal-dyed films with no published infrared figures at all. There is also an InfinityOP series (62% down to 16% VLT, 33% to 64% TSER) and a near-clear CoolSight 90 for windscreens. CIR, CXP and Carbon use non-metal constructions, which SunTek describes as signal friendly.

Every SunTek PPF is self-healing: the top coat closes surface scratches using heat from the sun, a warm panel, the engine or warm water. What separates the products is the top coat chemistry, the finish and the warranty term.

Reaction is the flagship, built on Eastman's Tetrashield resin system with a strongly hydrophobic top coat that SunTek claims gives up to 25% more resistance to acid rain, bird droppings and tree sap. The Ultra family uses the HydroResist top coat. PPF C and PPF M are the entry films.

The PPF warranties are written against cracking, bubbling and yellowing (Altered Black says cracking, bubbling and discolouration). Read that list carefully, because it defines a film that fails on its own. It is not impact cover. If a stone goes through the film and chips the paint underneath, that is the film doing its job as a sacrificial layer, not a warranty claim.

On window film, the ceramic and carbon lines carry a lifetime limited warranty. SunTek's Evolve page is the most specific, listing change in colour, peeling, cracking, adhesive failure and delamination. Carbon and CXP are described as lifetime limited with protection against colour change and more.

One caveat worth knowing before you buy: SunTek does not publish the full warranty document on its public site. Every product page ends by telling you to see the dealer for details, and every warranty is conditional on the film being professionally sold and installed. Ask to read the actual document before you commit, not after.

Evolve is advertised as up to 94% IR rejection. That figure is Selective IR Rejection (SIRR), which measures infrared between 780 and 2500nm that is not transmitted straight through the glass. Eastman also publishes IR Energy Rejection (IRER) for the same film at 64% to 65%, and Total Solar Energy Rejection at 50% to 65%. All three are genuine measurements of different things, and SIRR is the largest, which is why it is the one on the poster.

For how hot the cabin actually gets in a Dubai August, TSER is the number that matters, because it accounts for the whole solar spectrum rather than the infrared slice. A film sold to you as 94% heat rejection but delivering around 50% TSER will still be a large, noticeable improvement. It will not remove 94% of the heat.

The practical move is to ask the installer for the TSER of the exact shade being fitted, and to compare quotes on that one figure. Because Eastman publishes the whole table, you can check the answer yourself.

SunTek is sold through authorised distributors and the dealer networks beneath them. The brand's own distributor finder groups the Middle East under its Europe, Middle East and Africa region but does not publish a named UAE company in its page copy, so treat any shop's claim of authorised status as something to be shown rather than stated.

At handover, ask for warranty paperwork that names the specific product (Reaction, Ultra Defense, Evolve 35 and so on) rather than just the word SunTek, along with the shade, the install date and your VIN. A dealer who cannot produce that is a dealer whose warranty you cannot claim on.

Then follow the care rules, because breaching them is a realistic way to lose cover: SunTek says wait three days after installation before washing, hand wash with soap, water and a soft cloth, and stay out of automatic car washes and away from power washers, which can lift the film's edges.
