The practical UAE rule: genuine or OEM for anything safety-critical or hard to redo (brakes, suspension arms, sensors, timing components), quality aftermarket for wear items and cosmetics (filters, wipers, bumpers, mirrors), and used for body panels, lamps and big-ticket mechanicals on older cars. Ask for the part number in writing on the invoice too. It's your proof if the part doesn't fit, and most established shops will exchange against an invoice within a few days — confirm the exchange window before paying, especially on electrical parts, which are often sold no-return.

The UAE's accident-recovery and import economy feeds one of the world's best used-parts markets — half-cut engines from Japan, low-mileage panels from insurance write-offs, and complete drivetrains at 40–70% below new prices. For an out-of-warranty car, a tested used engine or gearbox with a workshop warranty is often the rational buy over a new unit that exceeds the car's value.
