Key facts
- A genuine roll of premium TPU film costs a shop roughly AED 5,000–7,000 wholesale — before any labour.
- An honest full-body install breaks even around AED 6,800–11,100 (film + 1–3 days skilled labour + overheads) before profit.
- Full-body 'premium' offers under about AED 4,000 mean PVC/TPH film, no registered warranty, or a rushed install — usually more than one.
- The one-question test: genuine film registers a manufacturer warranty in your name; grey and counterfeit film cannot.
- Failed cheap film typically costs more than a correct install: removal, paint repair, then re-filming.
The maths that doesn't add up
A roll of genuine, branded self-healing film (aliphatic TPU) costs a shop thousands of dirhams, and a full car uses a large part of a roll. Add skilled labour — a proper full-body install is one to three days of careful work — plus overheads and the manufacturer warranty registration. When someone offers all of that for AED 2,000–3,000, something has been removed from the equation.
Usually it's one of three things: the film isn't what they say it is, there's no real warranty, or the install is rushed. Sometimes all three.
| Cost line | AED 2,500 'full body' offer | Honest quote (AED 8,000–13,000) |
|---|---|---|
| Film | PVC/TPH or grey roll (~AED 800–1,500) | Genuine TPU, most of a roll (AED 4,500–6,500) |
| Labour | Rushed, often one day | 1–3 days, two installers |
| Patterns | Cut freehand on the car | Computer pre-cut for your model |
| Edges | Cut at panel line | Wrapped on removable panels |
| Warranty | Verbal shop promise | Manufacturer-registered, 5–10 years |
Where the corners get cut
Cheap 'TPU' that's actually PVC or TPH — inferior films that yellow, crack and haze in UAE heat within a year or two, and tear when you try to remove them. Genuine aliphatic TPU stays clear and self-heals.
No registered warranty — the value of a premium film is the manufacturer warranty registered in your name. Grey-market or unbranded film can't be registered, so when it fails, you're on your own.
Rushed edges — film cut on the paint surface (razor marks in your clear coat) instead of pre-cut patterns, and edges laid on top instead of wrapped, so they lift and collect dirt.
How to protect yourself (5 questions to ask)
1. What exact film brand and grade is it, and is it aliphatic TPU? 2. Is the warranty registered with the manufacturer in my name — can I see the certificate? 3. Are patterns pre-cut for my model, or cut on the car? 4. Are edges wrapped? 5. Can I see recent work and reviews for full-body jobs, not just small kits?
A shop doing it properly answers all five without hesitation. If the price is far below everyone else and the answers get vague, you've found your reason.
Cheap film is the most expensive option
When budget film fails, you don't just lose the money you spent — you pay again to have it removed (which can damage paint if it's tearing) and re-done properly. Two average jobs cost more than one good one, and your paint has been through more in between.
The honest way to read a PPF quote in Dubai: judge it on film brand, registered warranty and install quality — not the headline price. A certified installer charging AED 8,000–13,000 for full body with a 10-year registered warranty is doing the job the price implies. A AED 2,500 'full body' almost never is.

FAQs
- Is cheap PPF in Dubai a scam?
- Not always outright, but a full-body price around AED 2,000–3,000 usually means inferior film (PVC/TPH rather than aliphatic TPU), no registered manufacturer warranty, or a rushed install. Genuine film and skilled labour cost far more than that.
- How much should real full-body PPF cost in Dubai?
- Roughly AED 6,900–9,900 for standard film and AED 10,000–22,000+ for premium self-healing brands with a 10-year registered warranty. A front/partial kit is AED 3,500–6,000.
- How do I know if PPF is genuine?
- Ask for the film brand and grade (aliphatic TPU), a manufacturer warranty registered in your name with a certificate, pre-cut patterns for your model, and wrapped edges. A certified installer can show all of these.
- Can cheap PPF damage my paint?
- Yes — on removal. Inferior film tears instead of peeling and its adhesive can lift clear coat, especially after baking through a UAE summer. Freehand cutting during install can also score the paint.
- What should genuine full-body PPF cost in Dubai?
- Roughly AED 6,900–9,900 in standard genuine film and AED 13,000–22,000 in premium 10-year film depending on car size. Certified installers can rarely go below about AED 6,500 on a sedan without losing money.
