XPEL vs STEK PPF (2026): the honest Dubai comparison

XPEL vs STEK is the last call most premium PPF buyers in Dubai have to make, and nearly every comparison online was written for California. Here is the UAE version, built from what the two manufacturers publish themselves: the real ranges, the real warranty documents, the registration deadlines that quietly void cover, and what each film costs installed here.

Key facts

  • XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS and STEK DYNOshield are both listed at 8 mil by their own manufacturers, so on published thickness the flagship films are level.
  • STEK's DYNO topcoat is nano-ceramic infused as standard; XPEL charges for ULTIMATE FUSION to add a hydrophobic topcoat to ULTIMATE PLUS.
  • XPEL covers ULTIMATE PLUS and STEALTH for 10 years against yellowing, cracking, blistering and delamination, and both transfer with proof of the original installation date.
  • STEK's global warranty document gives the DYNO series 12 years while its US site publishes 10, extendable to 12 with STEK Final Coat β€” the term varies by region.
  • A STEK warranty must be registered on the STEK ONE platform within 30 days of installation and activated by the owner from a confirmation email.
  • In Dubai, XPEL full-body work runs AED 13,000–22,000+ against AED 9,000–15,900 for DYNOshield β€” typically AED 1,000–3,000 apart like for like.
  • XPEL's public locator lists certified installers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Fujairah; STEK's own site names no UAE distributor.

Two catalogues, not two films

Treating this as one film against another is the first mistake. XPEL splits three ways: paint protection film (ULTIMATE PLUS, STEALTH and COLOR PPF), PRIME window film, and FUSION PLUS ceramic coating. STEK is a serious name in two categories at once β€” DYNO is its paint protection film, NEX its window film, and the two carry entirely separate warranty documents.

So a Dubai quote reading only "XPEL" or only "STEK" tells you very little. On the STEK side alone, DYNOshield, DYNOmatte, DYNOmight, DYNOtop and FORCESHIELD carry terms from thirty days to twelve years. Get the product name written on the invoice.

The films, head to head

On published numbers these two sit closer together than the price gap suggests. Both flagships are listed at 8 mil, and both self-heal with heat, which in Dubai means the car park does the work for free: XPEL describes an elastomeric topcoat activated by heat, STEK a liquid topcoat that heals with heat or hot water. XPEL is honest about the ceiling β€” deeper scratches that penetrate the film will not fully heal β€” and that applies to both.

The real difference is the topcoat. STEK's is nano-ceramic infused as standard, and the same layer is credited with the hydrophobic behaviour, the stain and contamination resistance, and the optical clarity. XPEL's equivalent is a separate, dearer product. In a city where sprinkler overspray etches paint faster than stones chip it, that is the whole argument.

The warranty is where they genuinely differ

Both cover the film failing as a material, not the road doing its job. XPEL's ten years runs against yellowing, cracking, blistering and delamination, excluding collision, vandalism, fire and hail. STEK's covers cracking, splitting, delamination, bubbling, adhesive failure, yellowing and UV fading, and adds loss of self-healing performance, while excluding road debris impact, environmental yellowing and damage caused during removal.

The headline terms are not directly comparable, because STEK's own number moves: twelve years in its global document, which states the term varies by region, and ten on its US site, extendable to twelve where Final Coat is applied. Make the installer write your term onto your own document. Locally, ZGuard lists DYNOshield full body at AED 15,900 with the twelve-year term via Final Coat.

The deadlines are where UAE buyers actually lose cover. STEK registration goes through the ONE platform within thirty days of installation and you activate it from a confirmation email β€” if it never arrives, you have thirty days to chase the shop and nothing afterwards. XPEL's installer files through XPEL's own portal, and claims go back through that shop with the warranty card and your original receipt naming the covered panels. ULTIMATE FUSION's extra four years on oxidation, gloss loss, UV damage and fading also demands an annual inspection for the life of the film.

Matte, colour and the RTA

STEK's range is wider here. STEALTH is XPEL's satin film β€” the same protection as ULTIMATE PLUS, but it turns gloss paint matte β€” and XPEL makes a FUSION PLUS variant specifically for STEALTH so the satin is not made glossy. STEK answers with DYNOmatte, then goes further with a Fashion Film colour series in automotive-grade paints, including carbon-fibre patterns. XPEL's COLOR PPF is the equivalent: ten years, not transferable.

Dubai adds paperwork. A change of finish counts as a colour change, meaning a Police Colour Change Request and then the RTA within thirty days of the police NOC, with rules varying by emirate. Ask the studio to confirm it handles that before the car goes in.

Price, and the Dubai verdict

Like-for-like quotes typically land AED 1,000–3,000 in STEK's favour. Some of that is brand pull rather than polymer; the rest is the topcoat, since matching DYNOshield's water behaviour with XPEL means specifying ULTIMATE FUSION. Worry about the bottom of the range, not the top: certified Dubai installers rarely quote full-body clear film on a sedan below about AED 6,500, and a full-body offer under AED 4,000 means PVC or grey stock with nothing registrable behind it.

Pick XPEL for network and resale liquidity. Its locator lists certified installers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Fujairah, and cover on ULTIMATE PLUS and STEALTH transfers with proof of the install date β€” worth real money where cars change hands this fast, and safer if you might move emirate mid-term.

Pick STEK for the hydrophobic finish without the ULTIMATE FUSION premium, or for matte and fashion films. The catch is administrative: no UAE distributor named on STEK's own site, a term that varies by region, and a thirty-day registration window. Either way the install decides more than the logo, and both brands cover only film fitted by an authorised installer β€” Dubai has 86 PPF studios listed on our paint protection film in Dubai hub, 54 of them in Al Quoz.

Installed Dubai prices, 2026, for comparable coverage on a sedan; SUVs typically run 20–40% higher.

FAQs

Is STEK cheaper than XPEL in Dubai?
Usually, by AED 1,000–3,000 like for like: full-body DYNOshield runs AED 9,000–15,900 against AED 13,000–22,000+ for XPEL. Part of the gap is brand demand, part is that STEK's hydrophobic topcoat is standard where XPEL sells it as ULTIMATE FUSION.
Is XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS thicker than STEK DYNOshield?
No. Both manufacturers list their flagship film at 8 mil. The differences sit in the topcoat, the warranty structure and the installer network, not the gauge.
Which warranty is longer, XPEL or STEK?
It depends which STEK document you read. XPEL is a straight ten years on ULTIMATE PLUS and STEALTH. STEK's global document says twelve for the DYNO series while noting the term varies by region; its US site publishes ten, extendable to twelve with Final Coat.
Does STEK self-heal as well as XPEL?
Both heal with heat, which a Dubai car park supplies without a heat gun β€” STEK's topcoat responds to heat or hot water, XPEL's uses a heat-activated elastomeric polymer. XPEL states that deeper scratches penetrating the film will not fully heal.
Do I have to register a PPF warranty in the UAE?
Yes, with both, and STEK sets a hard deadline: registration through the ONE platform within thirty days of installation, activated by you from a confirmation email. XPEL's installer registers through XPEL's portal and should hand you documentation naming the product and the panels covered.
Does the warranty transfer when I sell the car?
XPEL's ULTIMATE PLUS and STEALTH transfer with proof of the original installation date; COLOR PPF does not transfer at all. STEK's transfers only if the new owner submits proof of the original installation date within thirty days of the ownership change.
Is matte PPF legal in Dubai?
The film is fine, but changing your car's finish counts as a colour change: a Police Colour Change Request, then the RTA within thirty days of the police NOC. The process varies by emirate, so ask the studio to confirm it handles the paperwork.
What does ULTIMATE FUSION add over ULTIMATE PLUS?
A hydrophobic topcoat, so the film sheds water and cleans more easily β€” roughly what STEK builds into DYNOshield as standard. Its warranty adds four years covering oxidation, gloss loss, UV damage and fading, but requires an annual inspection to stay valid.
