Key facts
- Matte PPF costs AED 9,000–14,000 full body in standard film and AED 18,000–25,000+ in premium film such as XPEL Stealth or STEK DYNOmatt.
- In Dubai, XPEL Stealth runs AED 20,000–25,000 full body, STEK DYNOmatt AED 18,000–24,000 and SunTek matte AED 15,000–20,000, all with 10-year registered warranties.
- Unlike a matte respray, matte PPF is reversible: removed with heat, the original gloss paint is intact underneath.
- The warranty follows the product, not the badge — SunTek Ultra Matte is 10 years, its entry PPF M matte 5.
- Matte film can never be polished or waxed: polishing compound burns permanent glossy patches into the texture.
- Budget matte at AED 8,000–12,000 full body chalks and stains within a season of UAE sun.
- Satin-black film on a car registered black changes nothing on the Mulkiya; a film that visibly changes the colour needs a Police Colour Change Request, then the RTA within 30 days of the police NOC.
What matte PPF is, and what it is not
Matte paint protection film is the same aliphatic TPU used for clear film — roughly 8 mil thick, self-healing — with a textured rather than glossy top layer. It absorbs stone chips, sand abrasion and light scratches while changing how the car reads in the sun.
The confusion in Dubai is with matte vinyl: decorative film around 3–4 mil thick that guards against light scuffs and will not absorb a stone chip. A matte respray is permanent. Matte PPF costs more than either and is the only one that is a finish change and real protection at once — and the only one that is reversible, since XPEL states its films come off leaving the original paint intact and free of residue.
| Matte PPF | Matte vinyl wrap | Matte respray | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thickness | ~8 mil self-healing TPU | ~3–4 mil decorative vinyl | Paint — no added layer |
| Stops a stone chip | Yes | No | No |
| Dubai cost, full car | AED 9,000 – 25,000+ | AED 4,500 – 11,000 | Body-shop quote |
| Lifespan | 5–10 years, registered warranty | 3–7 years in cast vinyl | Until the next respray |
| Reversible | Yes — original gloss intact | Yes | No |
The matte films actually sold in Dubai
XPEL Stealth is the benchmark: XPEL publishes it as the same level of protection as its clear Ultimate Plus flagship, in a satin finish that turns gloss paint matte, with the same ten-year warranty against yellowing, cracking, blistering and delamination, transferable with proof of the original installation date. STEK DYNOmatt — DYNOmatte in STEK's catalogue — puts the same self-healing, hydrophobic nano-ceramic topcoat as the gloss DYNOshield behind a matte result.
Below them, 3M's Scotchgard Pro Series 200 is published in gloss or matte at 0.2 mm with a hydrophobic top surface, LLumar's Platinum Matte carries ten years against five for its entry Gloss and Matte film, and Hexis publishes BODYFENCEXM at 180 microns. Read the product name, not the brand — our XPEL, STEK, SunTek and 3M pages list the Dubai studios certified to fit each.

What matte PPF costs in Dubai in 2026
Matte sits at the top of the ladder because the film costs more per roll and the install has no margin for error — a matte panel cannot be polished afterwards to hide a flaw. Full body runs AED 9,000–14,000 in standard matte and AED 18,000–25,000+ in premium, against AED 6,900–15,500 and AED 16,000–22,000 for clear gloss. Size matters as much as film grade, as it does across paint protection film in Dubai generally.
Partial matte is the underrated spec and almost nobody is offered it. A clear front kit is AED 3,500–6,000; the same panels in satin give a deliberate two-tone, and many owners run satin on the bonnet, roof and mirror caps with clear film elsewhere. Judge the timescale too: a proper full-body install is one to three days, so matte offered in an afternoon is skipping steps.
| Coverage | Clear gloss film | Matte film |
|---|---|---|
| Front / partial kit | AED 3,500 – 6,000 | Above the gloss kit — ask panel by panel |
| Full body — standard film | AED 6,900 – 15,500 | AED 9,000 – 14,000 |
| Full body — premium 10-year film | AED 16,000 – 22,000 | AED 18,000 – 25,000+ |
| Named premium matte | — | Stealth 20–25k; DYNOmatt 18–24k; SunTek 15–20k |
| Too cheap to be genuine | Under about AED 6,500 on a sedan | Premium matte under about AED 10,000 |
Living with matte in Dubai — the honest part
Matte hides swirls and fingerprints better than any gloss finish, but every repair route you know is closed: never polish, never wax, no brush washes for the life of the film. SunTek's care advice is to wait three days after installation before the first wash, hand wash with soap and a soft cloth, and avoid power washers.
The Dubai enemy is water, not sun. Sprinkler overspray dries into mineral spots that etch — removable with a light polish on gloss, preventable only on matte. That is why a built-in hydrophobic topcoat is worth more here: STEK's DYNO topcoat and SunTek's HydroResist make residue rinse away.
Coating a satin car needs the right product, because most coatings add gloss. XPEL makes a FUSION PLUS variant specifically for Stealth, and Gyeon's Q² Matte EVO is rated for matte and satin paint, PPF and vinyl at up to 24 months or 30,000 km. Read the cover: Gtechniq's guarantee excludes matte and satin finishes, and 3M's excludes non-clear-coated and matte finishes.
The legal position, and choosing the installer
Matte film does not automatically trigger a colour-change process — satin-black film on a car registered black keeps the registered colour. If the film visibly changes it, Dubai treats it as a colour change: a Police Colour Change Request first, then the car presented at the RTA within 30 days of the police NOC. Other emirates run their own process. Window tint is a separate rule set: side and rear glass must let through at least 50% of visible light, the windshield stays clear apart from a narrow sun strip along the top, and breaching it means an AED 1,500 fine plus mandatory removal, checked at RTA testing.
Our paint protection film in Dubai hub lists 86 installers in the city, 54 in Al Quoz, with the second cluster around Dubai Investment Park. Matte narrows that list, because the finish punishes the shortcuts gloss hides. Ask for patterns pre-cut for your model, edges wrapped rather than cut at the panel line — a cut edge on matte collects dirt in a line you cannot polish out — and the warranty registered in your name against the roll's batch code, the one check counterfeit matte cannot pass.

FAQs
- How much does matte PPF cost in Dubai?
- Standard matte film runs AED 9,000–14,000 full body; premium films such as XPEL Stealth or STEK DYNOmatt run AED 18,000–25,000+, with SunTek matte at AED 15,000–20,000. Premium matte offered under AED 10,000 is almost certainly grey-market.
- Is matte PPF better than a matte wrap?
- For protection, yes. Matte PPF is roughly 8 mil of self-healing TPU that absorbs stone chips; a matte wrap is 3–4 mil of decorative vinyl. PPF costs AED 9,000–25,000+ against AED 4,500–11,000, and lasts 5–10 years with a registered warranty against 3–7 for cast vinyl.
- Can you wash matte PPF normally?
- Hand-wash with a matte-safe shampoo, yes. Never polish or wax it and never use a brush wash — polishing compounds burn permanent glossy patches into the texture. SunTek advises waiting three days after installation before the first wash and avoiding power washers.
- Does matte PPF need RTA approval in Dubai?
- Only if it visibly changes the colour. Satin-black film on a car registered black needs nothing. A film that changes the colour is treated as a colour change: a Police Colour Change Request, then the RTA within 30 days of the police NOC. Each emirate runs its own process.
- Can you put a ceramic coating on matte PPF?
- Yes, but only with a coating formulated for satin, since most add gloss. XPEL makes a FUSION PLUS variant specifically for Stealth, and Gyeon's Q² Matte EVO is rated for matte and satin paint, PPF and vinyl at up to 24 months or 30,000 km. Gtechniq's guarantee excludes matte finishes.
- Which is better, XPEL Stealth or STEK DYNOmatt?
- Both are ten-year registered films at the same protection tier. Stealth transfers to a new owner with proof of the install date and has the larger UAE installer network. DYNOmatt carries STEK's hydrophobic topcoat as standard and typically quotes AED 1,000–3,000 under the equivalent XPEL job.
- Does matte PPF self-heal in Dubai heat?
- Yes. Premium matte films use the same heat-activated self-healing topcoat as their gloss equivalents, and dark panels here reach 80–95°C in direct sun. Genuine aliphatic TPU also resists yellowing for 10+ years, while budget matte chalks within a season.
