Key facts
- A real PPF warranty is issued by the film manufacturer and registered in the owner's name with the install date and roll batch.
- A 'shop warranty' is only a promise from the installer β it dies if the shop closes, changes name or disputes the claim.
- Warranties cover the film failing as a material β yellowing, cracking, staining, delamination, bubbling β not stone-chip damage to the film.
- STEK requires the DYNO warranty to be registered on its ONE platform within 30 days of installation, activated by the owner from a confirmation email.
- XPEL Ultimate Plus and Stealth run 10 years and transfer with proof of the original install date; XPEL COLOR PPF does not transfer.
- SunTek Reaction is warranted 12 years, the Ultra family 10 and the entry PPF C and PPF M films 5 β the term follows the product, not the brand.
- Registration is also the fake-film test: grey-market and counterfeit rolls cannot be registered.
Manufacturer warranty vs shop promise
The manufacturer warranty is a contract with the film maker: registered install, batch-traceable roll, defined coverage. If the film yellows in year four, the manufacturer supplies replacement film β whichever shop installs it.
The shop promise is 'don't worry habibi, ten years' with nothing registered. When the film hazes, the shop blames your washing, offers a discount on redoing it, or has changed trade name. In Dubai's shop churn that is not cynicism, it is Tuesday. Our paint protection film in Dubai hub lists 86 installers in the city; asking which of the two you are being sold is the fastest way to shorten that list.
| Registered manufacturer warranty | Shop promise | |
|---|---|---|
| Issued by | Film manufacturer | The shop verbally |
| Proof | Certificate / portal entry in your name | None |
| Survives shop closing | Yes | No |
| Covers | Yellowing, cracking, staining, delamination | Whatever they feel like that day |
| Transferable at resale | Usually yes β adds resale value | No |
| Possible with fake film | Never | Always |
What each brand actually publishes
'Ten years' is shorthand for a ladder of different terms, and the term follows the specific film rather than the badge. XPEL covers Ultimate Plus and Stealth for ten years against yellowing, cracking, blistering and delamination, both transferable with proof of the original installation date, while COLOR PPF runs ten years and does not transfer. Ultimate Fusion carries the same ten plus a four-year term on oxidation, gloss loss, UV damage and fading, conditional on an annual inspection.
STEK is the one to read twice. Its global warranty document gives the DYNO series twelve years from installation, qualified as varying by region with maintenance conditions attached, while STEK's US site publishes ten as standard, extendable to twelve where its Final Coat ceramic is applied. FORCESHIELD, the PROseries film, is five. And DYNOtop windshield film carries a thirty-day warranty, explicitly excluding rock chips and wiper wear. Same brand, four different answers β get the number for your region written on your own document.
SunTek runs a clean ladder: Reaction at twelve years, the Ultra family at ten, PPF C and PPF M at five. 3M publishes ten years across Scotchgard Pro Series 200, Series 150 and Series 100. LLumar's Valor is twelve, Platinum ten and its entry film five; Hexis BODYFENCE sits at seven to ten with narrower cover.
| Film | Published term | Transfers on resale? | Condition to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| XPEL Ultimate Plus / Stealth | 10 years | Yes, with proof of install date | Registered by the installer through XPEL's portal |
| XPEL Ultimate Fusion | 10 years + 4 on oxidation, gloss loss, UV, fading | Yes, with proof of install date | Annual inspection required throughout |
| XPEL COLOR PPF | 10 years | No | Colour film β plan the RTA side too |
| STEK DYNO series | 12 years globally; 10 on STEK's US site, 12 with Final Coat | Only with proof of install date within 30 days of sale | Register on STEK ONE within 30 days |
| STEK FORCESHIELD / DYNOtop | 5 years / 30 days | Same STEK rules | DYNOtop excludes rock chips and wiper wear |
| SunTek Reaction | 12 years | No β ends when the car is sold | Document not published online |
| SunTek Ultra family / PPF C / PPF M | 10 years / 5 years | Ask the dealer | Written against cracking, bubbling, yellowing |
| 3M Scotchgard Pro Series 200 / 150 / 100 | 10 years | See the warranty card | The card is the contract, not the web page |
| LLumar Valor / Platinum / entry film | 12 / 10 / 5 years | See the dealer document | Term follows the product line |
What a PPF warranty does not cover
Stone chips, scratches and punctures to the film are not defects β the film absorbing damage is the product working. XPEL puts it plainly: a stone that punches through the film is the film doing its job, not a claim. SunTek's PPF warranties are written against cracking, bubbling and yellowing, which is the definition of a film failing on its own rather than being damaged by the road.
The exclusion lists run longer than buyers expect. XPEL's terms are limited to manufacturing defects and are void where the film has been abused, badly installed or badly maintained, excluding collision, vandalism, fire and hail. STEK excludes normal wear, road debris impact, accidents, improper maintenance, third-party products, environmental yellowing and damage caused during removal β and cover ends when the film comes off the car. 3M does not publish its exclusions at all; every product page points to a warranty card, which is the actual contract. A ceramic coating stacked over the film is a second document, not an extension of the first.
Registration, deadlines and how a claim is made
A warranty that was never registered does not exist, and registration is the installer's job rather than yours β which is exactly why it gets skipped. XPEL's installer registers through XPEL's own portal and you should receive documentation naming the exact product and the panels covered. STEK's DYNO warranty goes on the ONE platform within 30 days of installation and you activate it from a confirmation email; if that email has not arrived, chase it inside the window. 3M runs a registration form the installer submits alongside the warranty card, and SunTek's document is held by the dealer.
The claim route is the same shape everywhere: back through the installer who did the work. XPEL claims are submitted with the warranty card and your original receipt identifying the covered areas, so keep the paperwork in a glovebox folder that travels with the car β because it also travels to the buyer. And note what registration proves about the film: counterfeit and grey-market rolls cannot be registered, so a shop that registers a manufacturer warranty in your name against the roll's batch code has, in that one act, shown the film is real.
Resale, and the aftercare that quietly voids cover
In a market where cars change hands as fast as Dubai's, transferability is worth real money. XPEL's Ultimate Plus and Stealth transfer with proof of the original installation date; COLOR PPF does not. STEK's film warranty transfers only if the new owner submits proof of the installation date within 30 days of the ownership change, and cover stays inside the original term. SunTek Reaction carries the longest number on paper at twelve years, but it ends the day you sell.
Most documents also require reasonable care, defined in the document rather than by the owner. SunTek is the most specific: wait three days after installation before the first wash, hand wash with soap, water and a soft cloth, and stay out of automatic car washes and away from power washers, which can lift the film's edges. Two UAE habits do most of the damage β the brush wash in the building's garage, which installs exactly the marks the film was bought to prevent, and letting hard water from sprinkler overspray dry on the paint. Ask for the care terms in writing at handover, and ask whether an inspection condition is attached: XPEL's Ultimate Fusion needs an annual inspection to stay valid.
The questions that expose a fake warranty
One: 'Register the manufacturer warranty in my name before I pay the balance β yes or no?' Two: 'Show me the roll's batch code you'll record on it.' Three: 'Email me the certificate or portal confirmation.' Four: 'Which exact film is going on β the product name, not the brand?' A certified installer answers all four routinely. A shop selling grey film cannot answer any, and you will watch the answer become a story.

FAQs
- What does a PPF warranty cover?
- Film defects: yellowing, cracking, hazing, staining, delamination and bubbling. It does not cover stone chips or scratches to the film β absorbing those is the film's job, not a defect.
- How do I check my PPF warranty is real?
- Ask for the manufacturer registration in your name β certificate or portal entry β with the roll batch code. If it is not registered with the manufacturer, you have a shop promise, not a warranty. Counterfeit and grey-market rolls cannot be registered at all.
- How long do I have to register a PPF warranty?
- It depends on the brand, and STEK is the strictest: the DYNO warranty must be registered on STEK's ONE platform within 30 days of installation and activated by you from a confirmation email. If no email arrives, chase the installer inside that window.
- Does a PPF warranty transfer when I sell the car?
- Some do. XPEL Ultimate Plus and Stealth transfer with proof of the original install date; XPEL COLOR PPF does not, and SunTek Reaction's 12-year cover ends when the car is sold. STEK transfers only if the new owner submits proof of the install date within 30 days of the sale.
- Is a 12-year warranty better than a 10-year one?
- Only if you keep the car. SunTek Reaction's twelve years is non-transferable, while XPEL's ten transfers to the next owner β usually worth more in the UAE's fast-turnover market. STEK's DYNO series can reach twelve with its Final Coat ceramic applied.
- Will an automatic car wash void my PPF warranty?
- It can. SunTek specifically advises avoiding automatic washes and power washers, which can lift the film's edges, and most documents exclude damage from improper maintenance. Hand wash, and wait three days after installation before the first one.
- What happens to my warranty if the shop closes down?
- If it was registered with the manufacturer, nothing β the contract is with the film maker, and another certified installer can handle the claim and the replacement film. If it was a shop promise, it closed when they did. That is the entire argument for registration.
