Marketing: 'dissipates heat' (a one-micron film cannot cool a 90°C panel), 'anti-static dust rejection' (minor at best — your car will still be dusty by Thursday), and hardness one-upmanship. Judge a graphene coating as a good ceramic with better water behaviour, priced accordingly. Note also that hardness figures across this category are pencil-scale and self-reported, so a 10H claim describes what a pencil lead does to the film in a lab, not what a stone or a wash brush does to it on Sheikh Zayed Road.

What 'graphene' means on a UAE quote

The clearest published graphene range in this market is IGL Coatings', because IGL states its solids content product by product. Ecocoat EZ sits at the bottom: graphene-reinforced, one layer, up to 8H and up to twelve months, which makes it a service-interval product rather than a multi-year investment. If a studio quotes you 'graphene' without naming which of those it is, you cannot price the job.

Why water spotting is the UAE-specific argument

Three local conditions decide how any coating ages here, and graphene only helps with one of them. Heat: dark panels reach 82–95°C parked in a Dubai summer, and sustained heat accelerates the oxidation that ends a coating's life. Dust: desert silica is abrasive, and dry-wiping a dusty panel in a car park drags sharp particles across the coating exactly as it would across bare paint.

Hard water is the third, and it is the one that actually kills finishes in this city. Landscape irrigation overspray in villa communities and unfiltered wash water both dry into mineral deposits that can begin etching within hours under summer sun. That is the failure mode graphene's lower surface energy addresses, and it is why the honest recommendation is conditional: if your car sleeps outside next to a sprinkler line, water-spot behaviour is worth paying for. The small print on a graphene job

Graphene coatings carry the same kind of conditional ratings as ceramics, and IGL's are stricter than most on one point. Proximity to home or office is therefore a practical buying factor, not a detail.

What is covered is the coating failing: blistering, bubbling, cracking, delamination, peeling, or a noticeable loss of gloss and reflectivity. Chips, scratches, mechanical damage, commercial use and damage from third-party abrasive products are excluded, as is neglecting the maintenance terms. The rating runs from the date of the invoice, is personal to the buyer and does not transfer with the car, and you have fourteen days from a problem occurring to report it. Get the coating named on the invoice and diarise the inspections from day one.

Graphene against the proven ceramics

Graphene tint is a different product entirely

Confusingly, 'graphene' also appears on window film in this market, and it means something else.
