Gyeon vs Gtechniq (2026): which ceramic coating for the UAE?

Gyeon and Gtechniq are the two coatings serious UAE detailers argue about — different philosophies applied to the same problem. Gtechniq bets on one ultra-hard, long-life layer applied by an accredited detailer; Gyeon publishes a real-world lifespan in months and kilometres and sells most of its range to anyone. Here is how each handles Gulf conditions, what their warranties actually demand of you, and which suits how you keep your car.

Key facts

  • Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra is a composite coating — a 10h top layer over a softer 7h base, built with 7nm and 20nm nanoparticles — carrying a nine-year guarantee and sold to Accredited Detailers only.
  • Gyeon rates Q² Mohs EVO at up to 36 months / 40,000 km in one layer (48 months / 50,000 km in two) and Q² Syncro EVO at up to 50 months / 50,000 km — the only major flagship rated in kilometres.
  • Every Gyeon Q² coating is rated at pH 2–11 tolerance; Gtechniq states Crystal Serum Ultra is stable from −40°C to +250°C.
  • Installed Dubai pricing: Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra typically AED 3,000–5,500; certified Gyeon systems AED 2,500–5,000 — both including the paint correction that makes a coating worth having.
  • Gyeon requires a certified service every 24 months or 25,000 km, a wash every 1,000 km or fortnight, and a Gyeon maintenance product monthly; automatic car washes invalidate the warranty.
  • Gtechniq's guarantee requires a free annual inspection with the detailer who applied it, is personal to you rather than the car, and voids once two claims have been made.
  • Neither coating stops stone chips — pair either with PPF on the front end for physical protection.

Two philosophies, one climate

Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra is the 'apply once, correctly, and forget' option: a dual-layer ceramic hard enough to shrug off wash marring for the best part of a decade, with no paid annual-inspection treadmill. It demands flawless application, which is why it is accredited-only — Gtechniq's own FAQ says a badly applied coat has to be wet sanded off with 1200 grit paper. Crystal Serum Light is the consumer-accessible alternative precisely because it can be machine polished off if it goes wrong.

Gyeon publishes differently. Rather than leading with a warranty number, each coating page states a real-world lifespan in months and kilometres plus a pH tolerance, conceding what every owner eventually discovers: a hard-driven car wears a coating out sooner than a garaged one. Its EVO generation is described as more chemically resistant, single-layer capable and friendlier to apply outdoors — which matters in a market where not every bay is climate controlled.

The two ranges, product by product

Neither brand is one coating, and most disagreements about them are really disagreements about which product was actually applied. Gyeon's ladder runs from Q² One EVO (up to 24 months / 25,000 km) through Q² Pure EVO (up to 36 months / 40,000 km) to Mohs EVO and the Syncro EVO system, which is Mohs EVO with Q² Skin EVO as a dedicated topcoat. Gtechniq's runs Crystal Serum Ultra, then Crystal Serum Light — which the brand describes as offering 80% of Ultra's performance — then C1 Crystal Lacquer, with EXOv5 as an 18–24 month hydrophobic topcoat rather than a coating in its own right.

Gtechniq's advice is not to stack layers of Crystal Serum Ultra; you add a topcoat instead. Gyeon's EVO range is layerable, and where two figures are given for one product the higher one is what a second layer buys. Ask the studio which product, how many layers, and whether a topcoat is included — three quotes that all say 'Gtechniq' can be three different guarantees.

The warranties are where they really differ

Gyeon says it has more than 2,500 certified studios in over 100 countries, and certification is the whole warranty story: have Mohs EVO or Syncro EVO applied by an uncertified shop and you get the coating's stated lifespan and no warranty at all. That is a perfectly reasonable thing to buy, as long as nobody has told you otherwise. Where a warranty is registered, Gyeon's conditions are demanding: a certified service every 24 months or 25,000 km, a wash every 1,000 km or fortnight between services, and a Gyeon maintenance product at least monthly. Automatic car washes, harsh chemicals within 14 days of application, leaving bird droppings on the paint and DIY repairs all invalidate it.

Gtechniq's obligation is lighter but narrower. Crystal Serum Ultra's nine-year guarantee needs you back with the detailer who did the original work every 12 months — the inspection is free, but the car must arrive reasonably clean and no inspection means no guarantee. What is covered is staining or discolouration of the coating itself, which Gtechniq repairs or re-applies at no charge. Excluded are stone chips, scratches, vandalism, rust, collision damage, matte and satin finishes, and any case where another product has been coated on top. It voids after two claims, and it belongs to you rather than the car — sell the vehicle and the guarantee ends.

Applying either one in a Dubai summer

The constraint people underestimate here is application, not service life. Gtechniq specifies an application temperature between 5°C and 25°C for Crystal Serum Light, with the car kept indoors for 12 hours afterwards; Crystal Serum Ultra needs 12 hours to cure before it gets wet, and HALOv2 carries the same indoor rule. In the UAE that means a genuinely climate-controlled bay for most of the year, not a shaded corner of a workshop yard — and a shop promising the car back the same afternoon in July is not working to the manufacturer's own instructions.

Gyeon's EVO chemistry is explicitly described as friendlier to apply outdoors, a real advantage in a market with a lot of mid-tier bays. Its aftercare pulls in the same direction as the climate: wash and dry only when the car is cool and out of direct sunlight, which here means early morning, after dark or a shaded bay for most of the year. Either way, expect to leave the car overnight, and be suspicious of anyone who does not ask to.

Matte paint, PPF and wraps

This is where the choice can be made for you. Gtechniq does not recommend Crystal Serum Ultra for vinyl and wraps and points to HALOv2 instead, rated up to two years on gloss, satin and matte vinyl and on PPF including self-healing films; matte and satin finishes are excluded from the nine-year guarantee altogether. For matte paint Gtechniq suggests C1 Crystal Lacquer topped with EXO.

Gyeon covers the same ground inside its main range: Q² Matte EVO is rated up to 24 months / 30,000 km for matte and satin paint, PPF and vinyl, protecting without adding gloss, and there is a dedicated Q² PPF EVO for cars already wearing film. If your car has a matte wrap or a full front of paint protection film in Dubai, say so before you take quotes — a gloss coating will visibly change a satin finish, and our matte PPF guide covers what that combination costs.

The UAE verdict

Keeping the car five years or more and want minimum fuss? Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra is the stronger buy at AED 3,000–5,500 — one accredited application outlasts most ownership cycles, and the annual inspection is free rather than a paid subscription. Enjoy maintaining the car, or plan to sell within three years? Certified Gyeon at AED 2,500–5,000 delivers the better daily experience per dirham, and the top-up path keeps it looking new.

Two things decide it more than the chemistry. First, neither guarantee follows the car when you sell, so 'resale value' is not a reason to buy either. Second, the coating is only as good as the correction under it — a AED 2,000 coating over swirled paint just preserves the swirls, and a two-step correction adds AED 600–1,200 for good reason. Budget for proper prep first, then pick the brand. If you also want the lifetime-warranty option in the frame, our Gtechniq versus Ceramic Pro comparison covers that argument, and the ceramic coating in Dubai hub lists the certified studios doing this work locally.

FAQs

Which is better in the UAE, Gyeon or Gtechniq?
Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra for long ownership and minimal maintenance — a nine-year guarantee with a free annual inspection. Gyeon for the best water behaviour, easy top-ups and outdoor-friendly application if you maintain the car or sell within a few years. Both need proper paint correction first.
What do Gyeon and Gtechniq cost in Dubai?
Installed with correction: certified Gyeon systems typically AED 2,500–5,000, Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra AED 3,000–5,500. Quotes far below that usually skip the correction that makes the coating worth having.
Can I buy Gyeon or Gtechniq and have any shop apply it?
Most of Gyeon's Q² range is open — anyone can buy and apply Pure, Mohs and Syncro — but an uncertified install carries no warranty at all, only the stated lifespan. Crystal Serum Ultra is sold to Gtechniq Accredited Detailers only, because a botched application has to be wet sanded off.
How often do I have to bring the car back?
Gyeon wants a certified service every 24 months or 25,000 km, plus a wash every 1,000 km or fortnight and a Gyeon maintenance product monthly. Gtechniq wants a free annual inspection with the detailer who applied the coating — miss it and the guarantee lapses.
Do these warranties transfer if I sell the car?
No. Gtechniq states its guarantee is with the individual customer rather than the vehicle and becomes invalid when the car is sold. Treat either coating as a benefit to you while you own the car, not as resale value.
Will an automatic car wash ruin the coating?
Gyeon lists automatic washes as a warranty-invalidating practice and asks for hand washing only. Brush washes install exactly the swirl marks a coating is bought to prevent — and in a dusty market, the mall trolley-and-cloth wipe is the same abrasion at lower speed.
Which one suits a matte or wrapped car?
Gyeon Q² Matte EVO, rated up to 24 months / 30,000 km for matte and satin paint, PPF and vinyl. Gtechniq excludes matte and satin finishes from its nine-year guarantee and points to HALOv2, rated up to two years on wraps and PPF, or C1 topped with EXO for matte paint.
Can you layer Gyeon over Gtechniq, or mix systems?
Do not. Each system's layers are designed to bond to their own chemistry, and Gtechniq voids its guarantee where another product has been coated over the top. Pick one system, apply it properly, and use that brand's maintenance products.
Do ceramic coatings stop stone chips?
No — coatings protect against UV, staining, water spots and wash marring. For chips and sand abrasion you need paint protection film; many UAE owners run PPF on the front end with a ceramic coating over the rest.
